Day 1, Painting 1 - "Secret Garden"
The story of this painting started when we moved across the country a few months back. Like most of us have experienced, moving takes a lot of time and energy. You plan, you purge, you pack, you put miles behind you, and then begin unpacking. But getting reorganized for life is a process. And for me, one thing that I didn't do much of when we were in that transitional period was paint outside. But, one day, a kind friend invited me to paint with a group of painters. We went to a small neighborhood where some kind people had agreed to let us traipse through their yards and paint whatever our hearts desired. And in back of one of the houses was a small, secluded, beautiful garden. When I saw it, I knew I needed to paint it. Standing there that morning, I found myself excited to be painting again outside. But maybe even more, even though we still had a lot to organize and figure out, that garden became a sanctuary, and I found myself at peace there in the cool of green grass and cool stone and shady leaves.
